Curlers will soon compete on a professional level.
The Curling Group took the next step towards the start of the Rock League on Tuesday when it announced the first six franchises and a list of players that will compete in curling’s first professional league.
The league is set to begin in April 2026 and will feature the Alpine Curling Club (Europe), the Typhoon Curling Club (Asia-Pacific), Maple United (Canada), the Frontier Curling Club (USA), the Shield Curling Club (Canada) and Northern United (Europe).
The Rock League is co-ed and the rosters are made up of 30 men and 30 women (five of each per team), including Canadian Olympians Rachel Homan and Brad Jacobs.
The Rock League the first of its kind to equally feature both men and women players, who were picked by strategic advisors Jennifer Jones and John Morris. The complete list of general managers was also announced on Tuesday.
“This was a chance to help shape something truly new for curling,” Morris said. “The talent we’ve got here is energetic and seriously impressive. The dynamics of these new teams are going to lift the sport in a fresh way that fans haven’t seen before.”
At least 60 per cent of players on each squad hail from their team’s region.
